Printing with Nature
I have always loved creating art from natural materials. During my university years in Derby where I studied ‘Creative Expresive Therapies’ I created sculptures from natural materials such as willow, leaves, seeds and wood.
I was and still am influenced by artists such as Richard Long, David Nash, Nils Udo and Andy Goldsworthy.
Alongside creating art for the degree we also learnt how to facilitate therapeutic arts workshops.
My chosen materials are ink, paper, graphite and watercolour pencils. I pick up a leaf a seed or part of a plant, press it into ink and then print directly onto a page (usually in a simple composition). I
start adding details in graphite and colour by hand afterwards.
There is an endless source of natural materials to print with and I’m constantly discovering new plants and new techniques.
I’m incredibly grateful to my gorgeous little boy and wonderful supportive husband ... without them this would not be possible!
